Paradigm Mechanical Corp. and San Diego Refrigeration were proud to once again participate in the FCL Teen Girls Camp, sponsoring Plumbing & Mechanical Day and introducing young women to careers in the skilled trades through hands-on learning and mentorship.
Hosted by Future Construction Leaders (FCL), the annual camp provides students with the opportunity to explore careers in construction by learning directly from industry professionals. Our team was honored to spend the day sharing our passion for plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical construction while encouraging the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
Hands-On Learning with Real-World Skills
Throughout the day, campers rotated through our plumbing and HVAC stations, where they gained practical experience while learning the fundamentals behind the work our teams perform every day.
This year's activities included:
Toilet & Sink Assembly – Campers learned how plumbing fixtures are assembled and gained a better understanding of the components that make modern plumbing systems work.
Copper Soldering Project – Under the guidance of our team, participants learned the basics of soldering copper while creating a San Diego-inspired design to take home.
Understanding the P-Trap – Using a fun marshmallow shooter demonstration, campers discovered why a P-trap is an essential part of every plumbing system and how it helps protect homes and buildings.
Each activity was designed to encourage curiosity, build confidence, and give campers a hands-on introduction to the skilled trades.
More Than a Day of Learning
One of the most rewarding parts of the event was watching the campers step outside their comfort zones, ask questions, and gain confidence as they learned new skills. Many had never used plumbing or HVAC tools before, but by the end of the day they were proudly showing off their projects and discovering just how rewarding the trades can be.
The construction industry continues to offer exciting, high-demand career opportunities, and we're proud to help introduce young people to the many paths available within plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical construction.
